Philip K Dick is the legend of 20th century science fiction .
Again his protagonists are move in and out of reality and unreality influenced by narcotics causing their world to be a hallucination that is paradoxically real.
Philip K Dick just allows you to ride on his imagination and that’s how you should read his dystopian world. There is so much truth in what he writes and I feel he is an important voice for our future which is becoming very real or unreal day by day.

only philip k. dick could have written this, but what makes this special to me is that it is better characterised, plotted and the text flows so well like the policeman's tears at the end (no, not tears in the rain, again!).

the arrogance and comeuppance of the louche tv chat show/singer, the alt.sex of the policeman's sister/wife, the sadness of everyday people, all fantastically envisioned, bought to life and dissected. a thing of considerable beauty, which should be treasured, like the potter's work (no spoilers - read the book for why)!

This book had one of the best settings for PKD that I've read. It was a very dystopian police state. Universities had become places surrounded by fences and the students and teachers were forced to live underground. If they escaped they were put into forced labour camps. Black people had been sterilised to solve the "race problem". It was all very grim. This was set against a character who was a top entertainer, fundamentally better than everyone else who because he had disappeared from reality finally got to see reality for the first time. Despite oozing charisma (supposedly) he was definitely one of the least likeable of Dick's characters. He never seemed to be quite able to believe that he really had lost everything and never seemed to be that psychologically damaged or properly paranoid about the changes around him. He did however meet some very interesting women along the way. A young ID forger who was an escaped mental patient, a woman into S&M and drugs, a timid potter. They were all only met briefly but were very real despite the sci-fi setting. The book not only touched on the usual themes of distorted reality and drugs but also the nature of fame, racism and fascism. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Another fine work by Philip K Dick (1928-1982), exploring the themes of 'what is real?' and 'what is it to be human?'.

Flow My Tears The Policeman Said was a Nebula Award nominee in 1974; a John W. Campbell Award winner in 1975; a Hugo Award nominee in 1975 and a Locus Award nominee, again in 1975.

That said, though some of PKD's works are better than others, to my mind they are all well worth reading. I would also recommend his short story collections:

Brilliant title, I was impressed by this book when I first read it a long time a go but this time round I couldn't be bothered with it. I think I was much less engaged by a world dominated by corporations and celebrity, frankly we get enough of that in everyday life.
