Dave Eggers lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.

McSweeney’s began in 1998 as a literary journal that published only works rejected by other magazines. The cover of the book is very nice. You can't see the texture and artwork for what it is until you hold it. I have been looking for something new to read for a while. The stories in the book are filled with characters that I like. They may not be for all readers but I like how they fit into the stories. Latin American literature is new to me but so far, I am a fan.

A tremendous collection of stories. Who besides McSweeney's would think to compile a series of pulp fiction from contemporary Latin and South American writers?? Loved it and have given copies to several friends.

This collection of crime stories from Latin America was highly recommended by many reviewers including Entertainment Weekly. I am a crime/mystery reader, and I gave it a try. It is not to my liking. I found the characters and situations unbelievable - bordering on trite - in most of the stories. Possibly the story lines suffered in the translations. I will give McSweeney's a pass in the future.
