I was worried that for cleans and snatches, they would be clunky and lack flexibility - nope.
I thought, why bother wear special shoes for squatting or deadlifting, it isn't like you are jumping around or have lateral motion. Boy, was I wrong. These just literally 'lock you in' so that your lifts are more stable, leg position better and your feet better supported. The soles have some give, so even for box jumps, powerlifting etc., these hang in like champs.
If I was going to do a ton of box jumps and no other lifting, then I would wear my minimalistic sole or cross trainer shoes. But I've been impressed with these shoes.
The sole is waffley and very flat. That means a lot of contact area with the ground and no 'hot spots'. It also means that since they don't have a heel on the sole, they can slide off something that is smooth or slippery. You'd need to try them to see. Fine for the gym, but wouldn't cross slippery boulders in a creek with them.
An intangible for lifting shoes if you've been on the fence like me. You put them on, strap them snug and you just feel like you want to lift. I don't struggle with motivation, but there is something to be said for the feel of these vs low heel lift or chuck taylors. You know you are going to do some lifting.
Another 'worry' I had with them was the heel wedge. I've been working out in my low heel shoes and thought it would be weird to lift from a wedge. So far, I haven't noticed that at all.
I've worn these for a while now and they are as good (and ugly) as new.
Construction wise, they are sturdy and offer good support and well built and I see them lasting a long time since I only use them for lifting.
