Ultima avventura di Victor, l' assassino creato da wood, questo libro è come gli altri pieno di azione ed adrenalina, la trama è interessante ma non mi ha convinto fino in fondo. Forse l' autore dovrebbe pensare a cambiare qualcosa...voto 7.

I find the whole Victor series refreshing in that Tom Wood doesn’t make Victor too likable. He is after all an assassin. This book really shows you the dark and merciless traits a professional killer needs to cultivate in order to continue doing what he does. Some may find him too heartless, I find him believable for that very reason. In my opinion, a good character has to be a believable character and Tom Wood has created that in Victor. It’s impressive that he has been able to create someone that the reader doesn’t really get to know without making him empty, you get just enough to keep you interested, but not too much to make you think you have him figured out.

The pace of the book is great, the twists are well placed and often unexpected. I would have given it a 5, but I feel like it lacked slightly in drawing me in to the scenes... I felt they weren’t given enough breadth, I wish Tom would have given me a bit more to work with, painted a clearer and more colorful backdrop on which the story was told. It felt a bit like watching a movie filmed completely on a close up lens.

I usually dont like it when an author writes in irrelevant information, but in this case he didn’t include enough “extra stuff” to justify the time span of the book, almost as if he had written a book twice as long and then edited out anything that wasn’t absolutely necessary. The story spanned many weeks, but didn’t feel like it needed to. I would have preferred a book that gave me less scenes but more description. With words you aren’t bound to time, so freeze it every now and then and unpack the moment for me. I hate to use the Jack Reacher books as a comparison (different styles), but they feel both expansive and detailed in almost every scene. You always know where Jack Reacher has been, what he has done and where he is going. The scenes don’t start and end abruptly, but rather blend together in a cohesive flow. Lee Child is a master of inviting you not only into Reacher’s external world, but his internal world too, which makes you feel close to the story. In this book you are transported from one important scene to the next without much of a glimpse into the everyday life of an assassin. A bit too much In and out.

That being said, I love the characters, I love the action and I love the story as a whole.

An enjoyable read.

Solid entry in the series. Not one of my favorite Victor books, but good. Nice to see him back being freelance and not beholden to an intelligence agency.

Book Review - Kill For Me by British author Tom Wood is the best Victor The Assassin novel yet in this great action thriller series - it is a perfect action thriller read! Tom Wood deserves a lot more attention and credit for this series. His novels are as good as the best authors of the modern action thriller genre including Ben Coes, Brad Thor, Mark Greaney, Marc Cameron, Brad Taylor, Jack Carr and John Gilstrap. Victor the Assassin is unique because there are no other action thriller characters who are similar to him. The setting for Kill for Me is Guatemala where two well protected sisters who head rival drug gangs are seeking to kill each other. One hires Victor to kill her sister and there is where the action begins! Excellent action thriller by one of my favorite action thriller authors.

In this latest Tom Wood book, Victor is a bit more antihero than he has ever been. The beginning has Victor in a dramatic and bloody encounter on a beach. Then Mr Wood jumps us back weeks before to show what led up to that showdown which I particularly like that strategy. As Victor gets into more and more impossible situations that he has to fight his way out of, I found myself yelling at him more so than usual. He seemed to get caught with his pants down quite a few times throughout the book and it was sooo frustrating! The book was action packed throughout and I was certainly never bored. For those that have yet to read any of the Victor the Assassin books, do yourself a favor and start at the beginning with The Killer. You will not be disappointed. I've read all of them 2 or 3 times now because they're that good. Victor is a one of a kind. I honestly can't wait for the next one!

Somehow this story didn't work as well as some of the others. Maybe it was the change of scene from northern to southern hemispheres. But probably it was because Victor wasn't paired with or faced by any sympathetic characters, as he has been in previous outings. Yes, he is in a casual relationship but the woman - a good person - doesn't know who he is, or work with or against him, so no real tension there. I think Victor needs someone like that to offset his strange ways or provide a decent protagonist.
